Washington County 21 Day Read Aloud Challenge Kicks Off

Reading for a few minutes a day to a child can help increase their vocabulary and help them learn to read on their own, according to national organization Read Aloud.

With that idea in mind, students at Jonathan Hager Elementary School had visits from more than 30 guest readers representing 22 organizations from around the county on Friday. It was the kickoff for a 21-day reading challenge meant to get them in the habit of reading every day.

The Washington County Early Childhood Advisory Council and OnTrack Washington County, along with representatives from the Washington County Free Library, the Washington County Family Center, APPLES for Children, Herald-Mail Media, the city of Hagerstown and Washington County Public Schools, teamed up to support the initiative.
