Ajit Pai, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), met with Hagerstown-area business and education officials Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Washington County Free Library to talk about how the community is tackling the digital divide. An independent federal agency, the FCC is the nation’s primary authority for communications law, regulation and technological innovation. Pai’s visit is part of a three-day tour of the mid-Atlantic/Appalachian area to talk with entrepreneurs and educators about the importance of broadband connectivity in spurring economic growth.

According to Paul Frey, president and chief executive officer of the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce (an OnTrack partner), Chairman Pai chose to visit Washington County because of OnTrack Washington County. James Kercheval, executive director of the Greater Hagerstown Committee, and interim executive director of OnTrack Washington County presented at the meeting, highlighting OnTrack’s mission, vision, and goals.
